88 Playcraft double deck Rebuild!!
Ok so I found this boat when looking for a donor boat for my other rebuild I was gonna do viewtopic.php?f=16&t=21765. Now that boat is for sale and I am starting this project this weekend. The boat is at the marina still because the trailer has 2 bad tires. Gonna get them changed and brought home sat so we can start teardown. Wish me luck on getting the tires off. I hate this kind of trailer. I have the wood ordered and should be here next week. can't wait!!
Not bad for $2800 the real value is the new motor the guy put in it before it sit for 4 years. It was winterized and left to rot poor boat. Here you can see the fancy diving board and the awesome deck rot Top deck has to be replaced too. Here is some more of the seats and stuff Hoping to get a new trailer for it. If not I will def have to get this fixed

Any rebuild project that starts with a leaf rake in the picture is one heck of a project. Good luck and keep feeding us pictures.

There was enough green stuff growing on the deck I thought about it.. Filled up both of big cans with leaves and trash that was on the deck.. Thats not counting all the stuff that blew off on the way home

HELP!!!****
So I am taking the deck off the boat and realize that is has this groove in the aluminum cross-sections every 4 ft to hold the plywood in. This seems really great and all but it leaves a small strip of metal across the deck between the sheets of wood. You couldn't see it with the carpet but I am putting woven vinyl on the boat and afraid you will see the seems.. Has anyone struggled with this before?

Re: 88 Playcraft double deck Rebuild!!
glancing at the pics... looks like a aluminum surface with T pieces bolted on, to hold down plywood... seems like putting plywood on top of flat aluminum sheeting wouldn't allow the wood to dry when it got wet, trapping moisture in the wood....
anyway, is the aluminum thick enough to support weight? if so, can you just remove the T pieces and put the vinyl on top of it? if not, perhaps remove the T pieces, and screw some tongue/groove marine plywood right to the flat surface?

The aluminum surface you are seeing in the picture is the top of the U shape toons and the underskin which is riveted to the cross sections. Basically Im just wondering if anyone here has first hand experience redecking a boat with this setup and did the joint cause the seams to be visible?PlaynDoc wrote:glancing at the pics... looks like a aluminum surface with T pieces bolted on, to hold down plywood... seems like putting plywood on top of flat aluminum sheeting wouldn't allow the wood to dry when it got wet, trapping moisture in the wood....

woven vinyl... That'll be nice. I can't say positively it will show through. I would guess you'd be fine. I've seen guys online that cut that "T" out and then just screw down the floor. I have a question did the floor screw down at the hat locations?Trollin79 wrote:HELP!!!****

OK sorry it has been a long winter. But I am back to working on the boat. I am currently pulling the panels from the fencing and toying with the idea of painting them. Its there a tutorial or someone have previous good luck with painting the aluminum railings?

Gave me some insight into the prep work.. I was wondering if anyone has had luck doing this with Rattle Can. I am thinking about using a Self etching primer then a gloss black.. Has anyone done this and if so how satisfied were you??Coldbrew wrote:This thread might help:Trollin79 wrote:OK sorry it has been a long winter. But I am back to working on the boat.
