Spring in Oklahoma
Oklahoma weather in spring this week is snow in the panhandle, tornadoes and hail in central and floods in north eastern part of the state. 3 weeks ago Tenkiller, Eufaula were 10 to 15 ft below. Today Tenkiller is covering most campgrounds and closed all ramps. The Illinois river that feeds Tenkiller is said to break flood records from 2015 when everything was washed away.
I don't remember a Memorial day That the lake was not in flood. We had planned to take our new RV out for Bettys Birthday next weekend but looks like the parks may be closed

Re: Spring in Oklahoma
We've been trying to take the boat out for the last two weekends and it always tends to rain on my off days. Needless to say, the wife isn't a happy camper.

We're very fortunate that our 16,000 acre lake (16 miles long) only goes up and down 3' a year. TVA makes more electricity out of this one dam than in their other 32 dams combined.
So much rain is coming out of the East TN and Western NC mountains that all the dams on the Tennessee River appear to have all spillways open. Wilson Dam has something like 3000' of 100' tall spillways side by side. It's just an incredible sight to see happening--flooding the upper end of Pickwick Lake and our city park/campground with a 10' wall of water.
I was cutting grass at the lake yesterday, and the wind was so strong that boating wouldn't be very enjoyable.

Re: Spring in Oklahoma
The weather this spring has been pretty crappy. The past couple of weekends has been cold and rainy. Keystone has come up nearly 15 ft as well. The ground is so saturated that any more deluges like this last one, and we'll be flooding just like at tenkiller.
The crazy thing is we have yet to have any major tornado outbreaks...

Re: Spring in Oklahoma
On weekend of torrential flooding and the spring boating season in NE Oklahoma is down the tubes for the next 6-8 weeks. A lot of folks are flooded out for thre 2nd time in 3 years. Our lake, Ft. Gibson is up 14 ft as of yesterday with projection of 28 ft by this Thursday. It will take 6-8 weeks to get all that water out which kills May and June for the most part.

We had the worst drought that I recall, since I've been a full time boater, last year. WE are nearly recovered, That's the good news, the bad is I fear it's going to go the other way this year, We'll see.

Our little lake, ElDorado Reservoir is up by 1.7'.
It got almost 4' above normal and they drained it down.
As long as they don't let it go dry, we'll be good.
My toon is still in the warehouse as every day that I've had to go put it in the water and get it into the slip was running 30-40 mph wind.
It's no fun trying to get it in the slip with winds like that.

Re: Spring in Oklahoma
Not much better here in KS. I have no clue what the water level is though, as I haven't bothered to check. It would be too damn cold to get in, and too windy to recover the boat without the risk of damage anyways. I'll wait another couple of weeks, but as others have said, we'll probably be flooded out by then. We have been the last 2 years on Memorial Day, and the year before that, we had an engine fire.
Memorial Day weekend usually isn't much good for us and the lake.

Re: Spring in Oklahoma
Loyd, I feel your pain. Just this year started keeping my boat in new completely enclosed storage up on Chicken Creek, so I wouldn't have to tow it back and forth. Besides camping, was hoping to get in some day trips now and then. Government called me yesterday and said all camping reservations had been cancelled on Tenkiller ( at least Chicken Creek) until July 1. I remember back in 2015 it was August until I was able to start camping. Just a few weeks back I was wondering if the lake would have enough water in it to get us through the summer safely, now this, 30 feet above normal.

Hope to see you this fall. We just today went to see the camper in construction. Added some plugs and shelves. He said next Tuesday it should be ready. Think we are going to try State Park by the dam when we get it to learn and stock
