Electric power on restricted Lakes
Have 20' Bently, 2hp 48v Kota.
Lake only allows el/sail or boats to paddle. Nice, quiet and peaceful. At 1/2 power, all great. When put to full power, it stops. Few minutes later, starts and runs good. Must be some relay or ?? that resets. Any ideas?. Looks as tho most here are gas powered, but I did go over the many posts. I belong to a motor home forum that is very informative, Thought I'd try this forum. Thanks in advance of any replys.

It sounds like a battery issue. The voltage dips on a heavily loaded battery. Where as lighter load doesn't cause as big a dip in voltage and will put out more energy at a slower discharge rate. If your battery is weak, it may be dipping below low voltage shutdown. Test your batteries if possible.
I don't know much about electric boat motors, but I'm sure there is low voltage setting to shut off the motor to protect from over discharging your batteries. That's the low voltage shutdown I was referring to. I work on battery powered industrial electronics for a living.

For your average 48V VRLA battery string, low voltage shut down should be around 40VDC. I don’t know with li-ion batteries. A 12V battery shouldn’t be discharged below about 10VDC. It depends on the rate of discharge and the shutoff is designed into the circuit.

Thanks for the replys. Batteries less than 18 months, and problem before replacing them. Waiting for motor mfg to reply. Thanks again for replys.

Can you ever get it to run at full power for any length of time?

Are you able to monitor the voltage and current real time? That will tell you if your trouble is supply or demand.

Today, ran it at 3\4 power. 5 minutes, shut down. Controller screen went blank. 4\5 minutes all came back on. Might be a relay somewhere???

My guess is the motor is drawing too much current, could it be over propped?
