New Floor Project for the Crestliner

#1 Post by Griggs » Sun May 12, 2019 10:20 am

Decided to do it this year. The carpet couldn't make it through another season. Getting rid of the carpet and going Vinyl.

I'm going to attempt to leave the captains stand and not disconnect all of the wiring. Hoping to be able to work around it.

568 screws later....

It looks like a lot of work. Just a thought. If you remove the console mounting bolts, can you lift it enough to slide the floor beneath around the edges?

That is the plan. The console is free and I can move it 3-4 inches in each direction. I should be able to lift it more than enough to slide the new vynyl underneath it. I'll just have to notch the vinyl to fit around the wires, steering, and throttle cables.

I'll update With pics.

You might want to put a cover on that motor. With the boat stripped, people can see your Johnson from the street. :rofl

Project update: Working between all of the rain here in the Northeast, I am about 90% complete. New vinyl went down nicely. The hardest part was sanding down all of the existing glue.

Everything lined back up using the original mounting holes. We ended up a few screws short for some reason. lol.

Overall the project went as expected. I'm hoping to finish up the electrical tomorrow and get it on the water for Sunday.

Out of curiosity, can you feel the screw holes through the vinyl or how do you find the again ince the are covered? Come up through the bottom of the deck?

Short answer. No. Unless it was a larger hole in the deck for wires, drains, etc.. the vinyl was too thick to feel screw holes. What we did was use a finishing nail with a pair of vice grips and poke holes up through from the bottom and then mark it with a Sharpie. Once a couple of the holes were lined up, the rest fell into place for each piece.

Big job. To do it again, I would say no. lol. but it was definitely worth it. Looks like I have a brand new boat!! :nana
