Pontoon fence replacement issues
So I’ve watched all the videos of how to replace fence metal and it seems pretty easy.... but of course, my boat isn’t like all the ones in the videos!
There is no way for mine to slide in from one of the ends. Both ends have radius corners and the metal fence is captive all the way around it. There is no area to slide into.
I thought about bending the tab back enough to get it in but I’m sure it will break around the corners. If I try to cut the edge off it will look terrible.
So far my only thought is to grind the lower lip off, slide new fence up and then rivet a new lower edge/lip around the bottom.
Other option would be to cut out the lower fence rail, install the new metal then have the lower rail welded in place.
I’m no welder and don’t know much about aluminum welding so not sure how workable that option is?
Ideally I’d like to replace all the fence metal but because of the set up of these fences that might be too much. That leaves me with replacing this missing section and maybe painting everything.
Thoughts?

Re: Pontoon fence replacement issues
If I end up going with the option of grinding off the lower lip is there an option for replacement aluminum strips? I haven’t seen anything in pontoon sites.
Can I just buy pieces (or rolls) of thin aluminum at the height I need to cover the ground off lip and overlap onto the new fence? (Then just rivet it in place to hold in the new fence as well as cover the grinds)

Urs is a bit worse then mine but I had similar setup. I bent back and slid in. Couple spots did split hammering back but what are ya gonna do. As for rolls of alum..... man idk that’s gonna be hard to find. Alum supplier only. Onlinemetals.com but not in rolls.

I used FRP panels from Menards. I cut them to size and pop riveted them in place. When an Asian carp takes one out I just drill out the rivets an rivet a new one in place.

Why you have Asian carp attacking boat is Godzilla on strike

Re: Pontoon fence replacement issues
Yes they attack! They've taken out a few panels on my boat. They hit the bottom of the boat so hard I under skinned with HDPE panels to hold up to the beating. Even took a ten pound fish to the chest while standing in the middle of the deck!
