Silly Floridians....try working on an aluminum boat outside when its mid 20s...every time you touch it...the heat gets sucked out of your soul

OR -- Working on it when it's 85 or more and that aluminum burning through your bones. 'Course you've never done that! :lol3 :lol3

So I'm taking measurements and double-checking this and that. I find my toon is actually 24' 6" (X 8'). What??! I don't think I've heard of that.
The transom end of the deck has a 20" board, then four 48" boards, then a 36" piece, and an approx 46" front board. What the hell? So 6 sheets of 4X8 goes to 7 - AND flooring goes from 24' to 28' (another $150!). :nutkick

Is this normal and I am too unknowing? :donno

Left over drops from other models :donno so they could have a different model for moar profit?

Would 8 inches shy at aft hurt usable floor space?

It seems like it may have been a "luxury" model for Landau in 2003. Extended deck, sculpted design carpet... who knows.

I actually looked at laying the deck boards differently, but the frame rails underneath are set at those measurements. Don't really want to get into re-laying all the framing. I'll just do it their way. Fuggers.

I'll get some new pics up soon. I'm still having to work, even though most everything else is closed. That means the boat work is in the afternoons after I get home. Got about half the deck off yesterday. As so many already know, old bolts and screws don't give up easily. And some SOB was apparently paid by the number of screws used! :x

Found that some of the strange deck boards sizes are due to the way they installed them. There are 2 separate pieces on the frame on either side of the transom cut. Then the 4X8s started. I thought it a bit out of the ordinary, but it won't be hard to replicate for the new floor. :| Famous last words...

Moving along. The tedious console wiring removal, frame cleaning/ prep, etc. is still to come.

BUT - it's been beautiful for the week so far, so work can happen. :nana

Continued removing deck boards yesterday. Now down to carefully disconnecting and labeling all wiring from the console to get it gone. Hoping this afternoon will lead to a fully naked, clean frame.

Gonna devote a bit of time to cleaning up the wire runs while it's laid open. I'm not sure what the thought was with the way some of it is just piled together. I like neat and organized.

Got the deck laid and sanded all the putty and paste... much thanks to my wife for pitching in. :nana
Flooring went down and (if it's still there in the morning) I'm tickled to death. That REALLY feels like progress! :alright :alright

Advice time ---- I have a Humminbird Helix 5. Power and transducer - no external antenna. I want to flush mount it in the console. I don't know how worried I need to be about it finding the GPS signal. :donno

Any help? Help a brother out.

My Simrad (no external antenna) is flush mounted in my dash and the only time it has a problem getting a signal is when I'm under the metal roof on my slip.

I think almost all of the smaller GPS capable, dash mountable devices rely only on an internal antenna and they seem to work fine.
