Time to sell... but how do I price it?

#1 Post by photonfanatic » Wed Sep 16, 2020 9:59 pm

Hi all. I'd like to explain a bit about my boat and see if there's someone here who can help me figure out how much to sell it for. It's finally time to sell my 2015 Veranda brand all aluminum pontoon boat. No wood floors, just more aluminum. It's a 22' fishing model with 4 fishing seats and the standard pontoon couch and table. Yamaha 90hp motor. The boat might have 30 hours on it, in total, if that. And that's why I'm selling it, I never use the thing. It's just time for it to go, I may revisit pontoons later on when I have more time to use it and someplace indoors that I can store it.

I'm thinking I should sell it for $15k, but I don't want to leave two or three grand on the table, if I should be selling it for more. It was $20k when I bought it new. It has some minor cosmetic stuff going on. The topmost piece of the couch will need to be replaced, because apparently the wind caused the cover to slap against it for a long time, and I didn't know it. This somehow ate into the very top of the couch, and the vinyl is worn and has turned brown. That will need to be reupholstered. It may need an accessories battery, and there is some peeling on the front consoles where you put your drinks. But that's it. There's nothing else wrong with the boat.

Anyone have any idea how much I should be looking to sell it for?

I look at local ads on Facebook, Craigslist and Boat trader to see if you can find any comparables.

Also, check out https://www.nadaguides.com/Boats to give you a rough idea. Boat sales are crazy good right now so I wouldn't be afraid to price it on the high side. You can always lower the price. Remember though, you're right at the end of boating season (depending on your location), so if you don't get any action, you might be better of waiting until the spring.

If you can afford to sit on it over the winter months I would price it a little high and see if you get any bites. Worst case is you put it back up for sale in the springtime. I bet if you tried to sell it a couple months ago you probably could get $20k at least...

Totally agree ^^^^
With the recent demand for boats the prices have been quite high (nobody has any!). From the pics, the seats appear to have staining, but no tears. Easy to price it at your price and drop a thousand when somebody mentions the stains.
If THE COVID keeps family outings high on the desire list, you should be able to catch a good selling price. Next season may prove to be a good bet if you get no takers this fall.
