Hello from Huntsville, AL!

I have a 1993 Harris Floatbote with a Yamaha 3.0 IB/OB with a Sundeck! Used it for a year and realized that these old Yamahas were obsolete. Been looking to repower with a new outboard transom or a third toon with transom for an outboard. In the meantime we purchased a 2004 Smokercraft with a yamaha 90 with only twenty hours and still have 1.5 years of warranty! Now we have a dilemma....We love the old boat which is sound except for issues going into forward. Should we do a swap of the topside and sell the extras or should we fix the old and sell the new?

Another issue is the Harris is 8' wide and the Smokercraft is 8'6" wide. If we do the topside swap, I will have a 3" lip on each side of the railing, not a great issue in my mind, but just another reason to consider fixing the Ol' girl and selling the new one. Time and money.....

I too am from Huntsville.

You are correct that the Yamaha I/O is obsolete, and finding parts, etc. is difficult. While it's in good running shape and the retail market is good, I'd clean up that baby and sell it.

Yes, it can be converted to an outboard, but engine pods are expensive and you might be throwing good money after bad money. And the boats with the upper deck are not in high demand. Good, dependable outboards come at a high price, too.

When I get out on the Tennessee River, I especially want a boat I can depend on. And you certainly can depend on that Smokercraft with a virtually new motor.
