Croakers on the Gulf coast too and I would have to agree pound for pound they're awesome fighting fish. World record is ~8#. In the Texas bays the "croaker run" used to be in October. Some great fishing and very good eating too. They definitely hit hard and fight hard. The little ones are fabulous Speckled Trout bait. :)

My vote for saltwater as well. very tasty, too.
Some catfish pull like tractors and death roll like a gator...others just let you reel them in. My wife hooked a 50 pound cat on 10 pound test two years ago; she fought that fish for 45 minutes. When we got it to the boat, it rolled and rolled, sliming everything! I damn near lost a finger when it rolled while I had my hand in its mouth to lift it.

Sockeye Salmon on a fly rod in the Kenai River, AK. What a fight! Those were no bigger than 5-10lbs but ran like crazy. Just had to hang on and enjoy the fight. I miss that. King Salmon fought hard too.

I got to reading them there stories about the 'fighting fish', and I got to chuckling....

Now, my story aint about fightin' fish... but here goes....

One time, I thought I'd do *it* with my wife, 'rodeo style'...
So, right at the point of no return, I hollered out her sister's name!

GEEZE, now THAT was the the fight of my life, trying to hold on for eight seconds!!!

Carp are great fighting fish...

In the old days when it was legal to snag, tail hooked salmon were really a fun fight.

Yeah I went on a tuna trip out of Ocean City, MD a few years ago. I got a 65 and 45 lb bluefin. The captain made us stand (no fighting chair). The ocean is so clear 80 miles out, it looks like the fish is close to the surface, but once you see the fish you still had 50 ft of water :rofl

I was sore for a week after battling those 2 :rofl :rofl

Had to be Glenn Jacobsen. We would stand toe-to-toe, and wail away on each other. And nobody ever really "won" or "lost".

Oh wait, you said fishfight? I thought you said "fistfight".

Walt, I think we need to talk! I've fished for trout all my life, and have no idea how to catch these cotton-picking warm-water fishes!
