This happened to us this morning.
Being too windy to put the boat on today, the wife and I decided to go Crappie fishing along the rip-rap of an old dam at a small city lake. After a couple of hours, and only catching 3 fish, we sat down next to the stringer to take a break. The stringer is about 8' long with a pointed metal end, that we had just pushed into a crack in the rocks. We no more than sat down, and the stringer TOOK OFF bending the point to 90 degrees. My wife grabbed it just before it popped out of the rock, and just in time to see a massive Flathead catfish taking off with the first fish on the stringer. This SOB was well over 4 foot long. I think I found a new catfish hole!!!
That’s my story and I'm sticking to it...
