Boat Parade World Record Attempt

#1 Post by TWB » Sat Aug 15, 2020 6:55 pm

This is going to be a great event!
On Sept 5, 2020, in Navarre, FL there will be a Boat Parade to set a new World's Record for number of boats! The current Guiness Book record is like 1,180 boats. The organizers here are shooting for 2,020! :nana :nana

Though the World Record attempt is considered a totally separate, non-partisan event, it will be preceded and followed by Trump Boat Parades. The record will be broken in the middle.

If you are anywhere close (and even if you're not!), you should come be part of this huge event! From what I have heard, there are already registrations from 7 states. Loretta Jane will be decked out with flags and beer! :beer2 :usa

In theory only, Clearwater hit 2200. Waiting for confirmation.

Yeah, I saw that. Good for those guys! I read an article that said it may take as long as 12 weeks to verify that many boats!
These folks are still holding to the thought they can break even that... we'll see. That's an ass-load of boats!
I'm lucky enough that the official starting point is only 7 miles from our dock and it ends right at our dock... hopefully quick escape from the crowds. :drive

After the ride, I think we're just gonna pull up at home, sit on the boat, drink beer, and watch all the folks meander around. :beer :bier The IC Waterway where this ends is only about a mile wide, and only deep in the middle of the channel. Gonna be a big ol' thing.

I was surprised at how much chop was created by only 300-400 boats on our lake. If you are at the end of the parade and have that many boats, you may have a challenge docking!

Hmmm... Excellent point, Marc. I guess if I have to, I'll just beach it at the house and move it to the lift later. Only had to do that once, and luckily the tide smiled on me.

Looks like there are lots of Trump parades planned for that same day. I know that both Lake Anna and Lake Gaston in Virginia are planning parades that day.

So here's the After Action... Great day for a parade! A billion people on somewhere near 2,000 boats! Holy crap! What a sight. Very, very cool. :usa :usa :usa :usa

BUT -- you were right, Marc. The chop was horrendous. Parade was supposed to be at idle speed. Tons of assholes racing through in 40' & 50'+ cruisers down to 12' jon boats. I've seen tropical storm seas that were calmer. Caused me to plow twice 'cause I was trying to keep from getting hit. :hairpull :hairpull

Also - My wife and her jetski!

Great day - glad it's over!
