I bought the same Alpha vinyl kit from pontoonstuff and will be laying it down tomorrow afternoon. How did that part of your project go? Was it easier or more difficult than you expected? Any last minute tips you can give me? Thanks for posting the pictures of doing your floor. I know a little more what to expect now. Thanks.
Have a roll of masking tape handy, you will want to tape it down all around the edges. Use a GOOD roller. Just like rolling linno, you can't skimp. You need some thing heavy yet narrow,
Yep go rent a 75 pound roller and roll it good, this gets the glue into the material on the back of the vinyl and sticks it down good, it's easy , just do half at a time, get it in position then fold half to one side, put the glue down, lay the vinyl down and roll it and replete on the other side, we used 2x6's on the edge weighed down and left it over night

Thanks, guys. Good tip on the masking tape. I wouldn't have thought of that. And I had already planned to rent the roller on the way home from work today.

OK we finely got the welding done and started worked on getting some metal on them.

Right side, sorry for the bad focus, I will have to take another one in the morning

Image

We used a trim strip on the left and didn't on the right, we kind of like it both ways but decided to sleep on it and see what we think tomorrow

Image

Image

Either way I'm going to have to drill some rivets out in the morning, but when your reinventing your pontoon and adding parts that weren't there before, takes some extra work to get it like you want it,the fence is the last thing we need to get done before we put every thing in and wire it, that water splashing sound is getting closer, we will be on the water before the end of the month, God willing.

OK trim won out put I still had to drill all of them out as we decide to miter the corners to make it look factory, we are now ready to paint, we won't fasten the engine enclosure metal to the rear fences till after paint.

The right real was a pain as the radius and height of the bends where not the same made it a pain to make it fit, that where the trim comes in handy, it allows you to adjust a little with a half inch of metal slid up inside the both pieces of trim, so that gives you a good half inch to adjust with.

We are going to have to add a water pressure gauge because we won't be able to see the engine at all, shouldn't be hearing to much either, I'll need to tack to know it's running.

It's great to know we are starting on the down hill side of this rebuild, we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and this time it isn't a train heading our way.

And now a word from our sponsor

Image

We should have plenty of storage below the sun deck for fuel on the right and batteries, tables when not needed, in the left, I'm going to put the batteries in boxes vented out of the compartment, we will put in a wood bulkhead in between the seats and the fuel and storage compartments

Thanks guys, I must admit it is getting fun now that we are getting close, we got the panels ready for paint and taped off yesterday and I'm priming them today as soon as it's hits 70 degrees outside, I don't want to spray inside, I got stoned for three days when I painted Joe Nemececk's old 40 foot encolsed trailer outside and that was with the best mask they had for sale on.

Looking good Herb. I like the way the fence looks in the rear. Nice work!! I got my "T" shirts yesterday along with some deck tape I ordered. Anette & Ty are great people to deal with as are ALL the folks at pontoon stuff. You're going to be done before you know it & then it's SHOW TIME. :biggrin2

The Jensen Water Resistant Radio Cover came in Thursday, I like it, the radio sets deeper in the helm to keep it out of harms way, the tabs hold the front of the mount and the back is double sided taped to the bottom of the cover and it has a great flange to attach to the helm,I don't have the cover on the hide the screws yet.

Now got to get it in the helm when I finish painting

Here pieces ready to be primed, the straight pieces I pulled out of the rails to save on masking

This is the last time this paint gun will look this good

My Brother took off to spend the weekend with the in laws at the beach or we could have had the second round of priming done, but I got them all done and a few sanded down, looking more like a Navy ship right now :rofl
