aluminum deck help
I am tearing the gross carpet off my 24' boat and im needing some help on a decent non slip to put down instead of carpet. I do alot of fishing and shrimping. Also I live in florida so something that wont get super hot. Thanks
Re: aluminum deck help
Many people are using heavy marine vinyl flooring when replacing carpets. It's also getting very popular on new boat orders. And it's some really tough stuff.
You can Google "Marine vinyl", and it can also be found at GreatLakesSkipper.com and PontoonStuff.com.
The main things are having a smooth underlayment, using the correct mastic (glue) and using a 100 pound vinyl roller when installing it.

YEP I put down the vinyl from PontoonStuff.com and it is heavy duty, all you have to do is order the flooring kit in vinyl and they send all you need to do the job except for the 75 pound roller, you will have to rent that for the day.

I've got the vinyl on my toon from pontoonstuff, I got the grey. The only thing is I wished I had got a darker color, it seems to get stains really easy, and there is a couple that I can't get up for the life of me!

Re: aluminum deck help
What would work good to remove the old glue from the aluminum deck? Possibly something not toxic lol
Re: aluminum deck help
Overtons sells a non skid roll on coating that I just applied on my party barge . So far so good.
Re: aluminum deck help
Chances are you'll have to use something that's "not green" to get glue off the aluminum bottom. Like aircraft stripper.
If you have any cracks, etc. in the aluminum, you might need to put down a smoother finish like thin luan plywood.

Re: aluminum deck help
A while back I had to remove glued down carpet from a ceramic tiled floor. The goal was to remove the glue and save the tile. I experimented with probably everything I had available and in the end an Orange cleaner did a real decent job of cutting it. I had to use it at 100% and work a couple sections at a time, because one had to allow it to some time to soak and soften the glue before before attempting scrape and clean it. It came out acceptably well on porous tile and grout, so an aluminum deck should go a lot easier IMHO.
