Busted Foot Housing

#1 Post by sharky300 » Mon May 10, 2021 6:43 am

Well, I guess ole Jack Frost Got me!!!

Went to change foot oil this weekend, getting ready for the Mothers day voyage... and found this! So, I guess the question is... is this a DIY project? If I can find another housing, is it something that might be tackled by someone with basic mechanical skills? Or have you seen anyone "patch these". I do not think there would be any pressure in the case, thought might be able to JB Weld it up? Anyone ever tried it?

Any ideas appreciated!!!

Honestly since it's below pickup and 90* gear, I would pull it g out of water and tear it down so I could clean oil off parts. Clean good and jb weld it, make sure you grind the patch (broken pc)1/8+ smaller so jb weld will for a bridge inside out.

Replace the oil seal, it is leaking which means oil ran out and water replaced it and froze.

If you can get both pcs into an 9ven to burn out/off oil....it could be tig welded.

Just giving you some ideas....

Good luck

Thanks for the replies... I found a guy locally that had the whole lower unit... put new seals and water pump, and had her back in the water this last weekend... I am going to go ahead and do the JB weld patch on this one, and keep it as a back up. One of these days I will do an over night cruise up to Chattanooga, never know what you might hit in the water... be nice to have it, and a prop, as spares.

Thanks again, hope you all are getting out in the water soon!!!
