Welding

Ok time to start thinking about this, it hit 51 in Ohio today.

I need to have a fender re-welded on my trailer. Will it harm the toon if it is loaded at the time? I thought I read something about it causing pitting???
I have a bunk style and the boards have carpet, maby a small tear on one side I'm planning on fixing when the toon is off.

I wouldn't take any chances with spatter hitting the logs. If you can't unload it then at least protect it with something.

If the work is in close to something that I don't wont to get smoke, flames, and spatter on I will use a peace of tin or something nonflammable to use as a heat shield, using a better rod will help with the spatter also.

if your close to the toon, then just throw something up between the 2 and you should be fine...
What kinda welder?
Best to be TIG'ed, but MIG will be fine... just make sure the guy uses gas as it will splatter less then if he uses those cheezy core wires...

Thanks Guys,

I will make sure we protect the log during the weld, if I am able I may wait and drop the toon in the water with the family and then get the trailer fixed. We garage ours year round and haul back and forth so it's the only time the boats not on it.

I would risk the ticket for the fender being broken and launch the boat.

The risk of losing your toon is not worth the reward of the fixed fender in my opinion.

Yeah protect it for sure. Remove the boat if you can.
