throttle creep

#1 Post by rebelrude » Mon Jun 11, 2012 12:43 pm

Just bought a 2009 20 ft sylvan with a 90 hp yamaha. Took hand off throttle loose at 4000 rpms and noticed it will creep back about 2-300 rpms. Is there supposed to be a friction lock somewhere in system to prevent this or is it perhaps mis-rigged? I don't want to keep manually holding it at the rpm.

Yep...look at the bottom of the control like from the floor and you'll see the screw or if the access hole is not visible pop the cover off and go back to step one. My controller is mounted vertical is why I said you can see it from the floor side. Best take the screw driver with you to the lake next time and give it just enough to hold it.

Yep... same thing happened to me when i first got our boat... remove my hand from the throttle and noticed it would slowly start slowing down.... When I took the boat in for something unrelated to this, I mentioned it to the shop foreman who mumbled something about them not being able to do anything about it because it had something to do with safety and I think ( but I could be wrong about this ) he even mentioned osha.... all it was was just a little tightening up of an adj. screw at the front of the throttle.... it's held really good ever since.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll be heading to the lake in two weeks and will see what I can find. I'm thinking you mean under the helm console as the throttle box is mounted to it. Or do you mean under the boat? Since I'm not at the boat, am trying to picture the set-up.

Well... I've got an 07 Yammy 150 and the control is mounted on the console. The control has a chrome cover and the adj screw is located at the base of the chrome cover facing the floor. Not under the boat and not under the console...just at the base of the throttle control. Don't over think it....you'll see

My throttle has a black housing and the friction adjustment screw is located on the bottom of the housing directly below the throttle lever, covered by a black plastic plug. Pop the plug off and the screw head is visible/accessible right underneath it.
