Proper method to hook boat to mooring buoy????

#1 Post by Fine Toon » Wed Jul 04, 2012 12:56 pm

Hi all,

So, I will be keeping the tritoon on the lake during the day and overnight for the next few weeks. A friend had a mooring buoy professionally installed. My question is what's the best way to hook up the boat? I know to hook up to the bow eye, but do I drop an anchor off of the stern or let it swing? I do have the anchor buddy, but not quite sure of the most effective way to use it in this situation. Please help!

Oh, and I'm far enough off shore that tying it to a tree or anything is not an option. I'll have to wade/swim out to it.

Thanks!!

I yhink you should let it swing. I've never seen a boat on a buoy with an anchor dropped.

Yep, let it swing with the wind.

Definitely let it swing around. If you drop an anchor too, in order to keep it from swinging, you now have 2 fixed points and both have to hold a LOT better. With one fixed point, it really does not take much to hold the boat. As the wind shifts, the boat moves around and there is less resistance. IMO, the same goes for anchoring. As long as there is room to swing in a circle, use one anchor, proper scope, and let it swing.
