Just bought a 2012 Berkshire LTD CL190

#1 Post by GrandpaGreg » Sat Jul 21, 2012 8:41 pm

Am a former Cadorette 19 ft I/O (170hp OMC stern drive) owner but just bought a BRAND NEW 2012 BERKSHIRE LTD CL 190 Pontoon Boat. Has a 40 hp EFI Mercury Bigfoot motor.

So far (only had it a week) but we LOVE it!!!!!!

Welcome!
That's a big motor swap difference.... you'll not even notice the fuel expense as compared to your prior boat!
But, I'll tell you something, you'll notice the quality time you spend on the pontoon!

Hi Gramps,

What 'issues' do you have with the motor?

Mind you ours is MUCH 'smaller' than yours......but LOTS of folks here in Ontario have Mercs (various Hps) on pontoons and swear by them!

Do you think that perhaps, unfortunately, yours is one of those made on a Friday afternoon?

Gramps has an entirely different motor. The only similarity is the logo on the cowl.

There isn't enough space for me to tell you all about it, you can go back and read some of my posts. Mercury is sending their Service Mgr out on Tuesday to go over the motor with the dealer and me, I hope it all gets corrected.

Gramps:

Tell'em to replace the 150 Fourstroke with a Verado 150--and they can pay for the installation charges. We know you've had it with customer "no service", as Clark Howard calls'em.

Bama, With my luck I would get 2 bad Verados. LOL!

GG, This will get you started on Gramps' problems.

As I said before, his motor is not much like yours. The 40-60 Big Foot is really a lot more like my Yamaha 70, the same basic block.
That is why I bought this motor. My old 60 EFI Big Foot ran 3075 hours with minimal problems and was still running strong when I sold it.
