Yes Only the Seastar can run the power power assist pump.Jenkins wrote:Gramps - Do you have the Baystar hydraulic steering? That's what my South Bay has. Do you have to switch that out for the PA pump to work? I'd like to do the same to my toon, doing a 30 point turn (don't ask) from our marina's gas dock, leaves my arm sore before we even begin the trip. Can help but think PA would be the ticket.

The power assist pump only works with Seastar steering and not Baystar.Jenkins wrote:Gramps - Do you have the Baystar hydraulic steering? That's what my South Bay has. Re: power assist steering, where is yours located
Thanks Gents. Looking at the BayStar on Teleflex's website, I noticed the following:
" BayStar is NOT recommended for use with high performance, 150HP engines (such as Mercury Optimax 150HP engines)."
So, I fired off an email to Teleflex today to get confirmation. Next step is to talk to South Bay about their donation for me to upgrade to SeaStar with power assist.
Hopefully Gramps' Berkshire came with SeaStar and mine was just a mistake with having the BayStar installed.
