storm damaged Bennington 2275GCW

#1 Post by Four R's » Fri Mar 08, 2013 10:15 am

I found 2013 Bennington 2275 GCW that was damaged during Sandy. Boat has everything I wanted including saltwater pkg, 32" pontoons, full vinyl deck, and brand new Yamaha 115 4 stroke with full warranty. The pontoons have some dents and there is some other cosmetic damage. Pretty sure I can get it for betweek 25K and 30K (out the door) which includes freight, tax and bottom paint. Want to make sure the rest of the boat will come with full warranty before even considering it. In fact, have not seen it yet. Should I run away or take it and run? Online price puts this near or above 40K.

Kind of hard any one here to answer questions about a boat you haven't even seen...but I can tell you if the insurance company wrote it off it has NO WARRANTY what so ever.
Just one boat...after another, after another :-)

I think that might be the case because the dealer is waiting to hear from his insurance company to see how much he will receive for damages.

I would not buy it for that kind of money site unseen. Since you didn't post any pics I have no idea how much damage this toon had. If the engine was submerged it is kaput! Like others said.....No Warrenty!

The engine was not on it. I would never buy it without seeing it and finding out if the boat is still under warranty. My major concern are the pontoons.

That does not seem "dirt cheap" to me.

I would reach out to Bennington and get an answer from them as to whether or not their warranty would cover this.

Based on what you've posted so far, it doesn't sound like a great deal. Lots of implied risk as well.

You should see the boat, price a new one just like it and get the details. Getting the price on a new boat will give you some relativity when it comes to deciding a fair price on a used boat.

If the boat has elliptical toons, any replacement toons are not cheap. Who knows of any aluminum sheet metal benders around that can take out any dents.

Good luck. Just take your time and don't make any emotional decisions.

When I first started looking for mine I found a dealer who also had one that was damaged in a hail storm. His insurance company paid for the damage and he was selling it at a good price because he did get the insurance money and came with a full warranty. I passed on it after I saw all the dents from the hail. Just didn't want a new boat with dents. Was no damage to the toons just the sides.

I think the same situation is happening here. He's waiting for the insurance company to settle for the damages. I'm waiting to hear from Bennington about the warranty.

Thanks for the advice. The dents, that I have yet to see, are my main concern.

I wouldn't even consider it, that's almost new boat pricing for a beat up boat. Just bite the bulletin and get a real new boat and price shop it hard.

The list price on this boat is over 40 before tax, delivery and bottom paint (which cost about $1400) and I'm looking at between 20 and 25K out the door.
