Your Perfect Day on the Lake

#1 Post by Cycleman07 » Thu May 02, 2013 6:33 am

I think we should all post what we consider a perfect day on the lake. I will start...

Mine starts off about 2:00 in the afternoon with a cruise out to what my son calls "Party Cove". It is actually called "Dry Lake" which is a cove on Keystone just west of Tulsa Ok. They call it Dry Lake because when the water is historically low it is actually cut off from the rest of the lake. The best part of this area is there is probably 400 yards of beach and it is sheltered from wind so its nice and smooth even on windy days. We anchor out about 50 yards or so off the bank and swim etc. When the kids are ready we pull up anchor and let them tube in this same cove. My oldest is 6 and is just learning to tube by himself. It is a good time. Once they get tired of tubing we head out around 6:30 and start our evening cruise listening to music and enjoying the company of friends and family. Our evening cruise ends back at the Pier at around 9:00 for dinner and Karaoke. I have no idea how I ever made it without a boat....

I have never been on Keystone but Ive been out that way several times. Looks as tho its got some nice sandy beaches. Beaver lake has lots of rocks!

My perfect day on the lake? That would be when I go out, dont break anything, dont run out of beer and make it back home!

While I've said many times that we use our pontoon 95% of the time for fishing, my idea of a perfect day on the lake is the other 5 % of the time.... and during those times we load the toon with family and friends and cruise from Louisiana over to east texas to a lake side restaurant..... it's about an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes each way, but the breeze, the relaxing atmosphere of just being on the lake, plus some of the sights along the way, make these trips my idea of a perfect day on the lake... here's a sample of pics from one of those trips.....

me, my son and his wife and her parents...Lee's parents don't own a boat so they love going out with us when they make it in to town, and we love having them... very nice people.

Don't know what it is about this thing, but it fascinates me... been there for years, started to board it once, but saw what I thought was a water moccasin and figured there might be a lot more inside... no thanks..

And that's my idea of a perfect day on the lake..

My perfect day at the lake is Saturday during our 3 day weekend trips to the lake during the summer. We pull our 5th wheel and pontoon down Friday around noon to the campsite. We always get waterfront so that we can tie up/beach the pontoon within sight of the camper.

We usually take our time getting up Saturday morning. Then around 10 or so in the morning we'll take a 10-20 mile cruise. We'll come back to grab lunch and some special drinks to take with us. Then we go find a nice cove or sandy beach to anchor out, drink cold ones and swim. Around 4-5 we come back and cook some steaks/hotdogs/burgers on the grill and take it easy the rest of the night. Sometimes we take the toon for a cruise after dinner.

This pic was a few weeks ago and it was still a bit chilly out. Boss lady told me to take it slow because she was cold!

This was a "lunch" break with some great friends and relatives. That is a good buddy of mine in the wheel chair, he doesn't get out often but really enjoys it when he does. This was his pontoon boat, and that it is what got me thinking of buying one, which we did a couple of years later. click on video

This was a miserable day but the walleye were on the bite, another great day which I will always remember. Man, I need to retire, as I can see so many more days like this when I have more time.
