Best place to install FF transducer on bow of pontoon?

#1 Post by Ezgoing » Mon Dec 30, 2013 11:44 am

I don't want to place my fish finder transducer on my trolling motor, as I lock up trolling motor up when I am not fishing. I can't see tempting those who fish the slips when I am not there. :)

So what is the next best place for the transducer?

Do the logs present any problems for transducer operation? I am thinking about making a mount for it from pvc pipe that I bolt to the front of the pontoon, on the right hand side of the bow. This would be very easy to do, easier than having a mounting position welded to the pontoon frame.

But I am unsure if the bottom of the transducer needs to be lower than the bottom of the logs to operate properly.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I wanted something about the same in the front of the boat so I can see what's in front of the boat instead of behind it, I'm sure you need to be low enough so the cone wave doesn't bounce off the toon and you have to be deep enough so you don't get air under it, so would only work at slow speed.

But if you get it worked out let us know

Thanks for the reply.

I only want it to use when I using the trolling motor so it will be slow speed. :)

I have a transducer mounted on the rear of the pontoon that I use when the motor is running to locate the fish. I want a second transducer on the bow so I can hook the fish finder up while I am using the trolling motor to fish.

I wasn't sure if the log would impact the sonar since the engine does not appear to impact it on the rear of the pontoon.

This pontoon has a place on the left log at the rear of the pontoon to mount the fish finder transducer. This places the bottom of the transducer lower than the log but does not place it lower than the lower unit of the engine when the engine is lower for running.

Engine is out the cone wave, it's like a narrow flashlight beam, so for trolling you should have no problem even a few inches above the toon and off to the side

Thank you. That was the information I was looking to find.

I will now go to the slip and take some measurements to see how long the pipe needs to be for the transducer.
