Got the dreaded call

#1 Post by OK Toon » Fri Jun 13, 2014 6:19 am

My neighbor at our lake place called me Wednesday to inform me that somebody had broke into our boat dock sometime late Monday night. :x We leave our boat on a lift with the cover on. My neighbor told me the back snaps on the cover were off and there were some towels on the dock. He didn't look under the cover because he didn't know what we had on the boat - but he did say the battery was still there. Not looking forward to the drive down tonight to see what I will find under the cover. About the only things electronics would be the mount for the depth finder and the head unit for the stereo (we remove the face). I had a power inverter stored under one of the seats and a phone holder on the windshield.

We are headed down tonight for a week-long vacation -- I just hope our trip won't be ruined without tunes on the boat. :x

So I bought a trail camera that I'll be installing on the dock this weekend. And I'll call the sheriff again when we get down there so he can come out and take pictures and file a report.

I'm sure it was kids in the development just bored with nothing to do for the summer -- but it really pisses me off because now I had to spend money for new locks, chain and the trail camera. :x I'd rather spend that money for gas for the boat.

Had this happen to me back in February. They tore up a lot of stuff and $12K worth of insurance money and 12 weeks I had my boat back as good as new. Hopefully they took it easy on you. Keep us updated.

Well good news, we got to the lake tonight and found nothing missing or torn up on the boat. What a relief. I guess since nothing was entirely there, there wasnt anything they could take and sell easily. New big ass lock on the walkway gate and new big ass lock and chain on thr front door.

Loyd, will definitely be securing the trail cam. Got the metal lock box that also comes with a steel cable. Ill attach the box to a metal 4x4 post high enough where they cant reach it.

Just glad our vcation didnt start out badly.

I had my generator secured with a heavy cable from car club, but they had big bolt cutters, if they want fat padlocks won`t stop good bolt cutters.

You know they do make burglar alarms for bass boats that can also be installed on a pontoon boat. I know for sure that Kevin Van Dam had one on his boat last time he stayed at my house.

Glade nothing missing. I really heat a thief. Never had anything stolen yet from mine. But know plenty who have. Let me catch one stealing from a fellow boater. No police needed when finished they will get the hint never try it again. Best cure is handle it yourself.

Around here on the rivers 9 times out of 10 if there is a boat break in... its teens looking for alcohol. They know people that keep their boats docked don't take it off the boat with them.

Had a gas thief at house at Tenkiller a few years ago. Stole 3 5 gal cans of gas. Made a bait can with 1/2 water 1/2 gas. Took a month before it to was stolen and a week later found neighbors truck was down with bad gas. The grandsons stole it and put it in mamma's truck. I really enjoyed calling and telling gramps and mom why it happened.
