Diluting AC Coil Cleaner for cleaning pontoons???

#1 Post by willy13 » Mon Jun 09, 2014 12:42 pm

I bought some Virginia Acti-Brite Concentrate AC Coil Cleaner. It is the pink acid base product. In the directions it says to "dilute up to 3 parts water for expanding foam action on heavily soiled outdoor air cooled condensers." I would follow the directions if I was cleaning my AC unit, but I obviously am not. So for the people who have used the pink acid base cleaner, did you dilute it? The directions seems to imply that diluting it will help increase its effectiveness, but I would rather get some opinions from people who have actually used it for cleaning pontoons.

By the way, I tried the blue alkaline base stuff over the weekend and it didn't do much. Hopefully this works much better.

I used it straight, as it came on my boat. It did a good job cleaning the toons. My friend who works in the heating cooling business got it for me. He said just us it straight and it will work great. I put it Ina garden sprayer ,let it soak ,and rinsed per the directions.

I used mine straight as well. It worked great but dulled the heck out of my trailer.

Thanks! I will try it straight.

My toon has been buoyed for 18 years, and never cleaned. It will be interesting to see how well the pink stuff works.

I am hoping to gain fuel economy and maybe 1 or 2 mph top speed. Otherwise I do not care how it looks.

I diluted mine 1:1 and it still did a great job. IIRC, it ruined my garden sprayer though, because I didn't rinse the nozel out right away.

I tried it last weekend. It softened up the crud making it easier to scrape off, but it didn't lift off as easily as I thought it would. It is probably because there is 18 years of crap there, but I did not think I would have to put so much elbow grease into it.
