Prop Help
Hey guys,
New member here. I've been a longtime viewer and appreciate all the information from this site. I've leaned many things and everyone always seems helpful. I'm hoping someone can chime in and help me with my prop issues.
I have a 2014 SunChaser DS22 with an Evinrude E-TEC 150 Pontoon Series engine. Boat weight is 2100 lbs and the engine is 420 lbs. The prop that the dealer set the engine up with is a Solas Rubex 14 1/4" x 17P. I think the boat is over proped. Currently at WOT i'm running about 34MPH, but i'm only hitting 5000-5200 RPMS (depending on waves and trim level). This motor shows that WOT should be 5300-6000 RPMs. I'm looking for all around performance as i use the boat for fishing, pulling tube and just cruising. I was just curious if anyone has a similar set up and what prop you're running.
A few numbers if anyone wants to help.
2000 RPM - 9 MPH
3500 RPM - 22 MPH
5000 RPM - 34 MPH.
I appreciate any comments.
Thanks.
Matt

Re: Prop Help
TLowry,
Thanks, but i've looked at that numerous times and cant seem to figure it out. From the looks of that calculator, it is more for test runs. To me it seems like you enter information from each prop that you run on your boat to determine slippage. I may be completely incorrect though. But if that calculator is performing like i think it is, i dont have the money to go tossing on test props at $400 + each. I'd be divorced and the boat repo'd.

Re: Prop Help
Thats the beauty of this calculator. To get the best prop, you want the lowest slip at the highest RPM. Figuring slip is the most important factor. Sounds like you are over propped. Ask your dealer if he will swap you out the same prop, but 2" less in pitch. That will probably put you in close to where you want to be.
Good luck with her!
