Still having ETec issues.

#1 Post by lakerunner » Mon Jul 28, 2014 5:48 pm

Well after $658.00 we had one perfect trip and the one yesterday not so much. Pulled boat to Tenkiller to meet friends and on launch motor started then died. Lucky I have 2 batteries as ran one down trying to start motor. Changed batteries and finally started and ran fine the rest of the trip. One more problem I will trade for a new Yamaha

Wow Loyd, sorry to hear you are still having problems with your motor. I hope this doesn't mean another month and half at Total Marine to get it fixed again.

A few years back when we still had the cottage in WI a neighbor had a brand new 90 Etec, he HATED that motor. It was always dying in the middle of the lake. I am really glad I didn't buy one, I wanted one for along time - when they run good then run good. Only thing worse than having an old motor with problems is having a new motor with problems.

Looks like I got some bad gas at Crowder on last trip to Eufaula. The shitty roads had well mixed when we got to Tenkiller.

Ordered this to replace old filter

Which place did you get gas from in Crowder? That's where I always get my gas since Canadian doesn't have 100% gas. I get it from that first little convenience store on the left as you come into town. I still put Marine Sta-bil in it though.

But yes, those roads between 9A and Texanna Road on 69 are very rough. That's where I snapped a 1" strap that was supposed to hold the front of the boat down to the trailer. I now use 2" transom straps if I have to tow on that stretch of road.

Watch for leaks in the drain valve. the reviews I read complained about some. I went with the more expensive racor.

Hope the issues resolve. Nothing worse than new motor problems. Hope you have better luck!

Thats the one, but I could be wrong. The pump kept stopping making me think the filter on pump might be full. We usually buy at Longtown.
