Outboard Motor Cleaner?
So what product works best for restoring my once black outboard back to black? Been in a slip all summer and is pretty much white from water spots. What miracle cleaner is out there to get back my shine?

I use this on my Jeep plastic fenders and bumpers and it does a great job.

Vinegar and water mixed 50/50, if its really built up, use straight vinegar and rinse. Smells kinda salady, but it works! I use it all the time!

One of the cleaner waxes with a little grit would get back the shine too. Like Megriars Cleaner Wax.

Once you get the motor restored to your satisfaction , Keep a spray bottle of the 50/50 vinegar and water on board and casually give it a spray and wipe down throughout your day... And atleast when you return to the slip .....
There is also a product called Hot Sauce.... spray detailer that removes waterspots and has wax in it... I think the company is called Boat Bling somewhere in AZ.

I am going to assume vinegar and water would also work on the sides of the toon for water spots as a remover when retuned to the slip in between washing

Sure will.... I use a spray bottle filled with 50% white vinegar and 50% distilled water. Works pretty well.Gonefishing wrote:I am going to assume vinegar and water would also work on the sides of the toon for water spots as a remover when retuned to the slip in between washing
Once the water spots are gone I use a product called Rejex.....keeps the surfaces clean and slick and helps crap from sticking to the boat. I do NOT use it on any vinyl or plastic surfaces, just metal and painted areas. When my new toon arrives next week the first thing I'll do is give the entire boat a coat of Rejex.....I use it on all of my toys.... (car, truck, motorcycle, boat and camper). Since it's a polymer it really stands up to the extreme sun and heat here in Florida. We also use it around the house on kitchen faucets, glass shower doors, etc... my wife loves the way it repels the water and soap scum in the shower. I typically apply it twice a year....makes the toys ultra shiny and makes washing them pretty easy.

Re: Outboard Motor Cleaner?
If it's BAD, like I let my Suzuki got, vinegar won't help. Vinegar is used to maintain it and to take off light staining from hard water.
I used LIME-AWAY. Spray bottle, full strength. Careful about getting it into the water, not great from the aquatic life. But it works miracles. They say not to use it on vinyl, aluminum, paint, etc. I cleaned my Suzuki, with the vinyl decals, and the fencing of all hard water stains and it came out great. Just rinse it a LOT as you go, don't let it dry up. Spray, wipe, rinse. However, use at your own risk. Test a spot out of sight first, wait a few days, then see if you get the results you want.
Also DON"T USE IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT. You really shouldn't apply anything but water in direct sunlight, just like a car.
I tried so many things on the cowl, nothing worked but Lime-Away. Our marina wanted to charge us $$ to do it, when I did it myself they said "oh, you learned the secret". Yup guess so. $5 Lime-Away.
I've done it several times, never any issues with any adverse effects. Engine looks new.
NOw, I used 50/50 water & vinegar every few times out to maintain the look.
And you can spray it with silicone spray.
