Stupid winterizing question

#1 Post by Ok Trout » Mon Nov 10, 2014 12:11 pm

First year with the 'toon and an outboard. Boat is kept in a slip not lifted. Unfortunately it will be kept in the slip through winter, like most other pontoons at my marina. I will be doing fuel stabilizer and lower gear lube change. Other than that, am I missing anything major? Motor is a 2014 merc 150 four stroke. Thanks!

I'd just suggest you fill the tank up with 100% gasoline--no 90/10 stuff.

I'm so thankful my boat's kept in the front yard in a boathouse--out of the water. That's why my last pontoon boat lasted 28 summers.

We also keep our boat in a wet slip year round, during freeze months we leave our motor tilted down in the water, add stabile, keep tank filled. Every 10-14 days I run the engine for 10 minutes, and we keep our battery on a Battery Tender trickle charger, a fully charged battery will last longer.

Best to check with Mercury owners manual before fogging the engine.

I was thinking of doing same thing. I'm only 20 minutes from the marina and I'm sure I'll be over there every few weeks doing something to it. Had a Rinker 270 Fiesta Vee cruiser before this boat so when it got shut down for winter it was done. Its 39 today here in Tulsa, it'll be 75 again before long and we'll want to take it out I'm sure. After one season with this boat I can't believe how much more happier I am with it then my previous boats.

Yepper we feel the same way about our pontoon, we use our toon a whole lot more than we did when we owned a Ebbtide 210 Campione open bow for 8 years, we trailered the Ebbtide. I miss going 62 mph, but I sure don't miss having to winterize every season and maintaining a trailer, pontoons ROCK!
