Getting river/lake discoloration off of motor?

#1 Post by wijames » Wed Nov 12, 2014 6:40 am

The toon I just bought spent most of it's life on a lake in NH and the part of the engine that was in the water has a yellow/brown discoloration that I cant seem to get off of it. Any suggestions on how I might clean it up?

I would start with some kind of acid on the toughest part. Calcium build up absorbs the color.

I'm not saying let's go kill all the stupid people.. I'm just saying let's remove all the warning labels and let the problem work itself out.

How about trying that CLR Cleaner? It is designed to remove hard water mineral build up and such....

works toilet bowl cleaner
put on, let it set, scrub with brush, rinse repeat
it may take several treatments to soften it up and remove crud
but it works good

be careful, use eye protection and do not inhale fumes

Thanks guys, I'll try some of those ideas this weekend. I didn't realize it was just hard water stains.

Thanks

I was shocked how well CLR worked on my outboard! It sat in the water all summer and now looks like new!

I was thinking about that. Last year I tied everything I could think of to clean my pontoons and a friend sugggested vinegar and it worked better than all the high priced products.
