Newbie Pontoon owner here.
I bought a lowrance X-4 Fishfinder Depth finder.
the instructions say to mount the transducer so thay the centerline is level with the bottom of the boat.
My use for this is not for fishing but checking water depth.
If i try to attach the transducer to the mounting plate on the starboard pontoon bracket. it will not adjust to be at it center line. it will be underwater, but just not at the centerline.
will this be a problem for checking water depth ? or do i need to find an extension bracket that would put the transducer at the centerline below the pontoon ?
any help would be appreciated.

Re: Lowrance transducer placement
I could be mistaken but from your description, it sounds like they are simply saying that the transducer should be parallel to the deck so that it is shooting straight down and not angled to either side. As long as it is parallel (L/R) to the deck (and thus parallel to the water surface) and below the water surface you should be okay. You want it to not be in any turbulence. You should be fine using the braket on the rear of the tube, just make sure the transducer is level with the water surface, below the surface of the water and not angled to the side. My factory mounted Lowrance is level with the bottom of the tube.
Be careful around rocks or when beaching. My transducer broke off when I beached and the stern drifted into a shallow, rocky area. The replacement transducer wasn't cheap.

Re: Lowrance transducer placement
Don't make it parallel to the deck. I have that same depth finder and it has big time issues if level with the deck. If you notice, your boat doesn't sit level in the water. The stern will often sit lower in the water than the bow. I set mine level with the water line on the pontoons and it was worked really well (relatively speaking..that fish finder sucks...)TDJ2591 wrote:I could be mistaken but from your description, it sounds like they are simply saying that the transducer should be parallel to the deck so that it is shooting straight down and not angled to either side.
