Where Do You Store Your Mooring Cover For The Day?

We also have a private dock and waterfrontage. My biggest problem is that usually I'm leaving first thing and the cover is wet with dew. So, the cover gets loosely draped over saw horses on land and then rolled up and put off to the side later that day when it's dry.

When we had a dock slip they let us put a box on it, and we used one of these http://www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-32-in ... /100189569 At 70lbs its fairly heavy, we mounted castors to it and would chain it to a pole. It uses two standard locks(we actually went with combination locks like these http://www.amazon.com/Master-Lock-178D- ... detailpage ) so we didn't have to bring a key. It stayed outside for several years without any issues, currently its being used a safe for guns in my house(with a fire safe inside it as well for documents).
We used to lock everything up in that box, but we just had a small 17 ft runabout. But back then they were having some issues with people's gear going missing, they have since added a security gate and some camera's, so its not happening these days as I have a friend who took the slip when we left.

Now, that's a box! Hard to imagine theft by convenience if locked or someone walking off with that. We are docked at a private marina and the section we're in has security cameras.
Thanks for the info

My son the electrician has a he same orange job box in the back of his pickup. He stores his expensive power tools in it and often leaves it secured on the job site. It's big and heavy and very unlikely to walk off a boat dock. Good idea.

Nice box indeed.. Also keep in mind where you would have to place this box. In our case our slips are on piers that are 48" wide and I did not want to cross the 24" mid line and take someone else's dock space as some others have done with their huge boxes or other stored items. It is for this reason that kayaks are no longer allowed to be stored on racks as they pose safety hazards on the piers. My box is secured to the concrete with 4 Tapcon screws and a small padlock to keep it closed as your not going to stop thieves if they want want to have.urbnsr wrote:Now, that's a box! Re: Where Do You Store Your Mooring Cover For The Day?
Most of the time I can park my truck 30 feet from my boat, so its no big deal to lock the cover in the truck bed. I'd love a gear locker on the dock, but there is limited room for a permanent one. I can boat when everyone else is at work, so if I clutter the dock with a cover, no one is there to trip over it.
My 4 or 5 PFD's on board are in a mesh duffel bag under my helm station. I also bought a bunch of Dri Deck tiles for the floor, so everything under the helm has a chance of not getting wet. Put a lock on that helm door. Gear is secure.
