Xcursion thoughts

as I mentioned in the intro, we are looking at pontoons. I found a used Xcursion on the interweb:

Asking $35000.

Is that a fair price for a 3 year old model? Relatively low hours (we typically average 50 hours or so a year on previous boats).

Thoughts on Xcursion boats in general?

That is a lot of boat for 35k, if in excellent condition then that is a good deal... From what i have read and heard they are excellent boats.. Forest River is great company..

I would look at boat trader, check out comps, call marinas to get the actual prices. It doesn't sound like a bad deal, but what if the 2016 models are 40k, depending on how you're paying it may be cheaper to buy new with better rates and terms, Or not, never know till you check. They are nice boats.

I have one and have had no problems at all. They are well built and seem to hold their value.

That's too much $. Excursions are all right, but they're not a Bennington, Harris, Manitou or Premier--the big 4. There is a difference in construction of the basic toons.

The best deal I've seen is at our local Mercury dealer who's very unpopular with other marine dealers nationwide because of pricing. See JacosMarine.com for tritoons that are worth the drive to purchase.

I have a 2013 excursion 23 xrfc has 115 Yamaha and love it. They are excellent toons and while built. Forst river also builds South Bay. I think that is a decent price maybe with a little dealing you might get it down to 30,000 that would be grate price.
I have the rear fishing model new it was in the 40 range I got it for 34. But mine is a complete different model then what u are looking at and doesn't have the third toon. If you want a good toon I would get it.

Looked at Jacosmarine.com and it appears they only carry Lowe. A 23' Lowe on their website is $32k with many fewer options. I would dare to guess that the quality on the Lowe is a little less than the Xcursion.

I agree about the Lowe pontoon, but Jaco's prices are quite a bargain. My Bennington is their least expensive model, and was a bunch more expensive than Jaco's prices. But it was still $2K cheaper than the comparable Tracker tritoon with the 150 engine.

I believe they are the entry brand behind South bay & Berkshire for forest river, Having said that, They are not an entry level boat, much nicer then other brands lower models. You can get a new south bay 5 series for low 50s, when I was looking last year at a dealer up here not known for negotiating, you could get a tri-toon w/150hp for 40k. All I'm saying is look around 1st and get real prices. I just saw the same model 2015 on boat trader for 35k brand new. According to my dealer up here in Canada they use to be affordable.... with the dollar in the pooper and the popularity of the boats prices have skyrocketed... My dealer actually switched to benington now becuase they can get them cheaper thus allowing them to sell for slightly less... Mind you this is just what they were telling me, my next boat will be an abnoxious wake boat that all the pontoon people don't like lol...

I've got a x23rf. While it's not bad, it's also not great either. It's definitely not a Premier, Bennington, Harris or Manitou. With that being said, I don't believe it was ever intended to be. The quality and attention to detail are just not there. It's as if the company took notice to the expanding segment in the boating industry and decided to throw a boat together to get in on the craze. Also I'm not impressed at all with the customer service. First, the dealer I dealt with is probably the worst excuse for a dealer that I've ever worked with. I ordered a number of options on it and when it shows up they weren't there. When asked why, I was told the salesman must not have submitted that with the order. Nice. So then I need a new front snap-in carpet. Mine got burn marks during a fourth of July camping/boating trip. It was in a slip near our friends campsite when they were lighting fireworks. One shot through the opened front gate and the rest is history. I called the dealer numerous times. I'm always told someone will get back to me and no one ever does. So I then decided to go directly to the company. Whom I've called and emailed numerous times also but to no avail. I'm told someone will call me back but they never do. I've been trying for two years! And it's not as if I'm looking to get it replaced under a warranty claim. I'm asking, I've been asking since this started, to BUY the carpet. So for that reason alone, the poor customer service I would never buy another one.

Dealers can make a big difference. Over a period of 7 years, I have bought a new Bentley then bought a new South Bay then bought a new Xcursion. I would have kept the South Bay but wanted a bigger engine and three toons. I have been very happy with my Xcursion and my dealer.

The Bennington and Harris dealers are another 1.5 hours away.
