I dont think i would want to buy a used one. Just dont know what youre going to get. No real way of testing is there?
Oh no, new, not used. I've seen new units going for $850.00 and less. Just like this one Carl found. Do a search on them, save te search and have Ebay e-mail you when they get listed. I don't think I'ld be afraid of a used unit, either. If I could find one for say...$500.00 or less and the seller guaranteed it to work. But as always... Buyer beware! Toss an offer on this one that Carl found for $800.00, see what the seller comes back at you with, you may get it!

I offered the guy 400 for that one. He said he would take 600. I might buy it if he will ship it. is there a way of testing? There is a brand new one on ebay for 1000.

http://www.teleflexmarine.com/products/ ... g-new/spa/ has the links on it you will want to look at. The unit is pretty much just a hydraulic pump, not much to go wrong with it. My owners manual has a troubleshooting guide, you can download it from the website.
Counter offer him $500.00, all he can do it say no, chances are he will drop a little more or like you said, pop for the shipping.
