I currently live in Harrodsburg, about 1 hr. SW of Lexington. Grew up in Monticello, near Somerset next to Lake Cumberland.
Can't believe I messed up the name of the St. John- I have a lot of good memories there.

Re: Trailor ?'s
About boat trailer brakes- surge vs. electric - Which is considered the norm for newer boat trailers? Is one style considered better than the other? I had thought that for a regular (not a boat) trailer surge brakes were not too common.
Re: Trailor ?'s
For boats, i believe surge are more common.
Med sized popups and up, electric brakes rule. Specially out here in the Colorado Rockies.

Surge brakes work better on a boat trailer because the safety system is mechanical in a break away event, with electric brakes the trailer has to have a battery (on the trailer) hooked up to engage the brakes in a break away situation which wouldn't be very practical when you are submerging your trailer all the time!

I agree that electric brakes did not make sense on a boat trailor, but one poster said that they existed.
I know about the 'battery on the trailer' for electric brakes. My state, Kentucky does not require them nor do we have to license our trailers. At least for the smaller ones-16 ft. ect. I

Re: Trailor ?'s
scissors trailers that are rated for highway speeds are fine.
they have many advantages.
i hate surge brakes.

Re: Trailor ?'s
i saw a bunk style upside down with the pontoon boat just like that. proves nothing.
do the math. stability is not that different.
head on collison... pontoon on scissors hits truck frame, on a bunk trailer it proceeds
through your vehicle decapitating your family.
just like the dreaded t** fins--still waiting for the data or statistics.
it's been a long wait.
