I'm big on the Battery Tender to extend the life of the battery and insure the boat will start when I hit the key.
I've always had boats without trolling motors, and we do not run a radio with a power booster all day. Therefore, I prefer to buy automobile batteries instead of the deep cycle batteries. If I toldyou how old my last battery was, you'd call me a lier. (2 stroke motors don't require much battery power to get going.)
When it comes to buying batteries for my cars: I don't buy them. I lease the batteries. How often to do you have to buy a battery after it's gone over the initial 12 or 24 months and it goes into the pro rata battery period? It's often more expensive to pay the pro rata price than go for a new battery. That's what I mean by leasing them instead of buying them.
