Level on a side to side you mean? It doesn't on vertical because transducer is adjustable
When I installed my Faria Depth Sounder the transducer was adjustable for horizontal & vertical mount. It also came with shims :donno I didn't need them but I guess they supply them in case your mounting it in an unusual location. I remember the directions stressing that fact that it has to be level.

My Manitou only has one bracket which in under the ladder. I mounted it there and doesn't effect the ladder use and works great.

Our original was mounted on the pump bracket on the left tube. I installed the newer one on the transom in front of the engine. The water is much cleaner there and gives reliable readings to much higher speeds.
