The Rainbow Bridge
inspired by a Norse legend
By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,
Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,
Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.
On this golden land, they wait and they play,
Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,
For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,
Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,
Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.
All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,
Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

For just at that instant, their eyes have met;
Together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past,
The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,
Has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.

Thanks all, its been tough. She would have been 11 this september. My wife says no more dogs and I have to agree. It is way to painful to even think about doing this again. Its only been a day but a painful one at that. Whats worse was watching my 23 and 25 year old daughters just devastated as it came about in days. No warning really, just an episode that lead us to find the tumor on her heart. We did an in home euthanasia service and it helped having her in her comfortable place. WE are thinking of naming the new boat after her if it ever gets here. Not sure I could look at her on a flag though. I would be crying all the way around the lake .

I'm so sorry for your loss. I've had to put two down, my Golden Retriever and my yellow Lab. I thought I wouldn't get another also, but our dogs impart too much love into our lives.

So Sorry you lost your best friend. I had a young lab that was spoiled rotten by us and all the neighbors as well. She developed kidney disease at four years old and had to be put down, after I spent hundreds of dollars on vet and medicine bills trying to save her...All this after spending 1200 bucks to repair a blown ACL in her knee. A year later they are investigating mysterious dog deaths possibly due to dog treats made in china. Now you know the rest of the story. We fed her a treat or two a day, mainly the jerked chicken variety made in china. Turns out many of the dogs in question had consumed these treats on a regular basis, and many of them died as a result of kidney failure. I saw it again on the news a couple weeks ago...trying to get the FDA to lend their expertise into this investigation. I held that dog in my arms while the vet put her down, and cried all the way home. Two weeks later we adopted a wonderful loving lab/golden retrieve mix, and she has stolen our hearts from the beginning. Its nice feeling to give a good dog a wonderful home, and only treat with made in the good ol' USA!!!

Thank You, we got her ashes back today along with a paw print in plaster and a fur clipping. Not sure what we will do with it but my wife is pretty creative with her scrap booking . We did the in home euthanasia service if I did not already mention it and it was great, My wife held her head while she layed on her own bed and my two daughters, 25 and 23, had their heads laying on her . My hand was on her as well. I just know she felt us with her as she left our time .
