Yamaha outboard engine cover with extension for lower unit?

I must be missing something how we got to the point about worrying about the lower unit fading or bugs hitting it while towing...

Is this really a concern for people?

Is it for me....... I keep my things looking like new. Last boat, a Sea Ray 250SLX had a Mercruiser Bravo III outdrive, and hanging in the same boat slip, that outdrive faded to an ugly color. Rest of the boat looked like new after 7 years. I didn't want to start out with a brand new engine and let it fade the same way the Mercruiser did.
