I had another thought about this topic.
My 75 tends to make oil throughout the season. Has a hint of gas smell in the oil. Could that be from a poorly tuned engine (ECM program)?

Well, It could be! Mercury loves to run the outboards rich. It keeps the exhaust temps cool and protects the engine. But its a waste of fuel management. And that extra fuel washes right pass the pistons, into the oil pan. It could be a stuck open T-Stat or something making the engine think its running cold and needs more fuel, too. That's how a lot of the cheap performance chips work. They FOOL the motor by making it think they need more or less gas. Read the instructions on this one. http://www.magnumtuning.com/en/detail/d ... mance-chip Its probably the most practical, because it has some degree of user tuning to it. But still... Its nothing like a professionally done tune. And does it work? Besides the kick in the pants difference in holeshot, a spin on a dyno will tell you he truth. Would I trust the Dyno-boost on my $20,000 Verado?
