Trailer guides... opinons please

Hey Cowracer.... I experienced the same thing... almost never was able to get my toon loaded on the first try.... finally gave these a try... and they really have made loading the boat so much easier... yes, they stick out a little wider than the trailer but you can just slide the plastic guides off when your towing... I actually have forgotten and left them on many times and never had any issues... these really worked for me...I have them adjusted so they are only about 2 inches away from the rub rail... I just line up the right side of the boat just inside the right trailer guide and she slides right on.

I used to have a similar problem, but it was caused by backing the trailer in too deep.

When unloading the trailer is much deeper...I typically back in deepe enough to get the boat on and then power it on the rest of the way.

This solved my loading problems even in the wind.

^^ what he said... I back in until bunks covered in water then pull out so about a 3rd of first set is out of water.

My lake forbids power-loading. It really screws up the lake bottom at the end of the ramp. It digs out a deep hole and deposits all the gravel in front of it. We had to get a dredge in a couple years ago to clean that shit out. If security catches you power loading, they will pull your sticker and eject your boat.

last year I was pulling out, the ramp was so bad one side of the boat was about 45` angle to the other,coming off the trailer. I just had to hold me breath and go. The next guy in line just left. 50% of the people I see are power loading. I always say something, most of them know better and just don't give a shit.

Go to the inside. when you pull over them it steady's the boat. when your pulling your pontoon up out the way it centers it.
You mount these when its on the trailer. Just let them be about 1/4 inch from touching the pontoons and your already set.

final update on this issue:

I purchased and installed the outside type like Roland has. I got a chance to try them out this last weekend. They were pretty easy to install (about 10 minutes start to finish) and they worked fantastically. I set them up where they were about 3/4" from touching the tubes on either side. My buddy who backed the trailer in to retrieve me also said that it was much easier to back in as he could see where the ass end of the trailer was. He backed in probably a bit too far and had I loaded like that without the guides, I guarantee you that I would have come out sitting crossed up on the trailer.

It was very helpful seeing where the end of the trailer was, and despite a rather stiff wind, the guides held me in place as I motored forwards. When we pulled out, I was dead centered on the bunks. First time, no issues. Damn glad I had them.

One lesson learned, ya gotta pull in the fenders before launching or loading. I wound up pulling off and losing one of end caps from the pipes with the fender.

I can highly recommend them as a cheap solution.

Tim, sometimes just having that "visual" of the guides sticking up out of the water makes it easier to line up when you're loading.. Glad they worked for you...
