Maybe I am just not seeing the water hose connection, but I have looked everywhere.
Ron, on my yamaha 4 stroke the hose connection is located high up on the left side of the motor ( left side if your standing at the back of the boat facing the motor )

Yep, it was still drawing in water, but not as much as it would have normally. It didn't run long enough to over heat, it was for maybe 5-10 seconds, as I was holding the trim button in the up position, from completely down, constantly, and it takes approx. 5-10 seconds for the motor to get high enough for the prop to be partly out of the water. This is when she just shut off like I turned the key off. No sputtering, just quit. Lowered her down, and she started with the first crank. Didn't act like it was starved for fuel, as I didn't have to crank for more than a split second.

The hose fitting does not readily look like a hose fitting. Look for the small black hose outside the cowling on the left side. This hose goes to the water hose adapter which is threaded onto a blind keeper. Unscrew to disconnect the adapter then attach it to your hose.
RTFM - using this connection you do not need, and must not have the motor running. Also, it says for best flushing, raise the motor all the way up. I think it was designed for your situation.

My father in-law has a 4 stroke 250 Yamaha that has the fitting, but mine is a 2 stroke 50hp. I'll look again. Hope you are right.
