Bentley Powder Coating Help

Look @ the nice work that Bentley puts out 2011 Bentley Encore Elite anyone else have this problem.We are just sick about this our first pontoon. Sure wish I had my Crownline back.

Sorry for your problem. About all you can do is try feather sand the edges and try to find a spray paint that will match the color. But, there must be dozens of colors of white paint.

Bentley Encore's powder coated railings are "their signature." They would probably sell many more boats if they didn't powder coat their railings. You can special order a boat with anodized aluminum railings, but they don't seem to be on dealers' lots.

Shouldn't that be covered under warranty??

I would think that is a warranty issue. Don't feel to bad, there was a guy on the other site that had his brand new Bennington log fill with water and half sink and his canvas had a large seam come apart.
It happens to the best of them, call Bentley and let us know what happens.

I am the second owner I purchased the boat in March from a private owner. I called Mountain Top where the boat was purchased they said powder coating was for 1 year. I have tried to find out when in was put into service but no one can tell me that. They did say they would send touch up paint. The pics are just a few of the chips that are coming off. I called the factory sent pics & no one has called me back. BUYER BEWARE BENTLEY BOATS

I had alot of scrapes and faded spots on my rails, I took off my side gate anbd took it to Home Depot. They matched the colors on both the side panel and the railing, in enamel and I used a small roller to apply it onto the railing. It was just alittle too light at first, but after 1 drop of black tint was added to the quart, by them, it matches good. 2 quarts cost me $38.00 and that should last me for as long as I own the boat.

Only option is as mentioned. get a color match and touch it up. Only way to fix powder coat is to redo the entire process, and obviously this is not an option.

Thus touch it up with regular means, and try to forget about it.

Another option would be to take a hammer to the side panels. I guarantee your powder coat issue will not seem like such a big deal

Although it won't be of any assistance after the fact, Bentley offers anodized rails as an option. If I had known about this thread BEFORE we bought ours last month, I would have insisted upon it.

Before we bought our Berkshire I was seriously considering Bentley, but I had concerns wiith the powder coating also. It looks good but I was afraid about chipping as stuff gets moved around and bumped against it.
I never thought about it just flaking off.

If you paint that, be sure to wire brush it down to clean metal and use a primer. The best is a 2 part etching primer but if you don't want to buy that $$$ zinc chromate will work. The usually have that in a rattle can at the boat store near the lower unit paint.

I finally found out when the boat was purchased 4-12-11 I emailed about it in mid May .They said they would send some touch up paint @ that time well guess what as of today no touch up paint.Sad thing is we live on the lake & I have to look @ this piece of junk every day. BENTLEY owners good luck to you.

About the only thing you can do is send Bently a letter with pics and the serial number of your toon and tell them that if they don't fix it you are going to file a complaint with the State Attorney General, the BBB and bash them on ever website you can find! Send them a copy of the complaints you file. You also may file with OSHA as this is a hazard to any small children that may chew on the rails! Who knows maybe they use lead in the paint.
If that doesn't work then you look to see if there are any class action suits against them, or you can just fix it as was outlined above!

Sorry to hear that. Fortunately my 2005 Bentley has not had an issue with that.

Sorry to hear you are having issues with the powder coating. I have had two Bentleys (2005 20ft and currently a 2010 Elite - Black) without issue...although I am going to check my railings next time I am at the lake
