So what do you cook on your toon????

Had another fantastic day on the lake with my beautiful wife and our German Shepard who's as excited about going on the toon as we are. I'd now go just to watch how much he enjoys jumping off the toon to swim. We bought a wind prof Magma in '04 with no regrets, it works great. This year we've been doing some different kabobs, marinating the meat the night before. Being already in bit size pieces they are already like finger food. What's some of the other favorites out there?

My favorite boat picnic food is a greasy bucket of KFC--with the slaw and nasty mashed taters/gravy. And, brownies.

I especially acquired a taste for the stuff going to the Indy 500.

Sorry, but we don't cook on our boat, and our lake no longer has any restaurants open.

We have over a dozen places to go eat here. I haven't cooked on the boat since we were lobster diving in the keys. Lobster and stone crabs are great on the grill tho.

I don't know which would be better, diving for lobster or cooking and eating them on the boat. It must be so cool to boat in the keys. I've only got to dive once in my life on a vacation in Cancun. My dive instructor was (true story) at 6 ft blonde named Catalina from Barbados who hated to ware wet suits and scubaed in her bikini. The last thing she said before we got in the water from the dive site was, "stay right behind me" which I obeyed :biggrin2

One of my favorites is bratwurst. I put them in a disposable aluminum pan with peppers and onions and pour in beer. I like it because it's easy, you dont have to be too mindful of the grill, and they taste great!

You pretty much never see a wet suit in the Caribbean. Too damned hot.

I know most of you like the gas grills but still I like the charcoal and hickory chips. I picked up some smoker boxes a few weeks ago and they worked really well. The packaging said they can also be used on gas grills. You basically soak the chips for at least 15 minutes prior to cooking. I bought both the stainless steel one and cast iron. Think I favor the cast iron because it seems to heat much faster and get the hickory smoking quicker. The boxes really help in keeping flare ups down, so you can spend more time drinking beer an less time fighting flare up with a squirt bottle. The gas grill is at the other house, but plan to get it next time I am there and give it a try with the hickory boxes.

If you like added smoke flavor while using a gas grill, here's what we use. It's a little cast iron pot with a lid and you can get the pellets in various flavors to complement the meat you are cooking.

They have a Savory Herb pellet that is great when grilling chicken.

Burgers, dogs, brats, and Chicken so far. We bought a fairly cheapo Colman gas grill and made a rail stand. After the second use, pretty much stopped making picnic lunches and cook on the river. We also marinate the chicken overnight.

Burgers, brats, venison marinaded in brown sugar/soy, Maryland crabs, striped bass, catfish, shrimp, steak and chicken kabobs, I've pretty much cooked everything on my boat at some point. Especially Canal Days, we feed our crew for those 3-4 days.

We enjoy cooking Bubba Burgers and let the smoke roll off the back of the boat for everyone to enjoy.

Some guy I knew took a pic of me once at Canal Days grilling as I'm standing next to a topless chick. Thinking he'd get me in trouble, he sent it to me without saying who he was...lol. Now he knows better. :rofl (edited for the G rated section of this forum) :paranoid
