Mercury re-call

Well it's not like I haven't had enough problems with my 2 motors, today I get a letter that they want me to bring the motor in so they can look at the Alternator and make sure it doesn't rest on the block, otherwise the vibration may cause it to fail.

If they want to come to my marina and look at it fine, but i'm not going to get my trailer pull the damn thing out and haul it to the dealer and then re-launch it.
I've done this to many times already this year. :x :x :x :x :x

gramps........I know you are done with merc and don't really blame you. Think I would call a rep and see if they could not come to you as a nice gesture, you deserve it. Anyway best of luck going forward.

Doc:

I bet Gramps has the Atlanta Mercury Service Rep's phone number on his speed dial.

I agree that he's due more consideration--given the circumstances.

GRAMPS, I got the same letter. I stopped by the mechanic and talk to him. It is easy to check yourself,,,,,Look at the bottom of the alternator (port side of the engine) and if you can wiggle a business card (about 10,000ths) between the bottom of the alternator and the block you are okay. If you are okay then call your dealer with your serial number which is at the top of the letter and let them know and they will contact Merc. with that info. It is real easy to check. I checked mine today but mine does touch the block which means I will have to get the alternator replaced. Mechanic said he would do it tomorrow morning, it takes about 1/2 hour.

If you can get it done this way then tell them to bring a replacement alternator in case yours is touching the block.
