Mercury to replace my Alternator

Well I took the re-call letter that I got to the Merc dealer at my Marina and they never seen the leter before. They checked it out and then sent the mechanic to my well and he checked it out and said that it has to be replaced.
The good news is that he said that he can do it at my dock as I have a deck on the back of our toon.
He said that he never had the cover off of the new 150hp 4 stroke engines, that they all have been good and not needed any work on them.
That was good to hear, I was telling them about some of my problems and they said wow! They will order the new alternator and install it when it comes in.

I also mentioned to him about the 4 prop changes that the dealer tried and that they all ran exactly 5,200 rpm,s he said the motor would be better if it could get the full amount of rpm's which is 5,800 and that was all he said.

Your Dealer had not seen the letter? My Dealer was well aware of it and had alternator's on hand and replaced in less then 25 minutes. Then the mechanic never had the cover off? Boy when I was a mechanic in a different industry when something new came about I was all over it checking it out. The motor won't be any better by running at 5800 rpm's, the spec's are 5200-5800 rpm's. We also tried different props, got some more rpm's but no better top end. I have run into this situation in the past with other boats. It's rare that I run WOT anyway, it gets right up on plane even with 8 adults just like when there are two adults on board. Like I said Merc. spec's are 5200-5800 rpm's. That is Great that you got them to come to you!!
