PROP help new SB 522CR 115-4S Merc.

Ran the boat with the stock aluminim 3 blade cheepy. Satisfactory 31MPH @ 6100rpm. I contacted a highy recommended on Screamandfly, DAH PRO-Peller shop. He recommended a SOLAS 4blade stainless. Plus some
"rework" to lessen blowout turning with alot of trim I had mentioned. WOW, bummer, boat slowed down to 29mph
@ 5700. Disapointed of course. I haven't contacted them, but don't want to throw more good money after bad.
Any recomendations? I really like the Trophy Plus I run on by Winner runabout 175XRI. But 17P is the
smallest they come. Can you take 2" pitch out of a prop? I haven't run slip numbers yet, speed on GPS.
Oh yeah, both wheels 15P.

Jim, Under engine tests on the Mercury web site they show tests of all their engines, have you looked there?

the merc mirage plus is a good prop. not sure how low they go in pitch. yep the 17p was even a little too much for my 150. Enertia does go as low as 14p, I believe.

forgot to say if you are looking for optimal speed doubt you will find a 4 blade that does it.

Gramps, never have seen that. Enlightening for sure. I don't see any boats real close to mine but a little close.
Those running close to my numbers are turning 13P or less. Numbers say too, I'm tying to pull too much
prop. Darn, sure hated to spend way over $500 to slow our boat down. Expensive anchor. You'd think a top
prop shop could get it right.
What prop are you running? I don't see a 230 Berkshire. Do you habe BP1 or BP3? We have the Sport Tube,
3/4 center tube. It's weight is not litsted, but close to 1900. I guess our boats are cousins!
I wish we had sprung for the 150, make that 15P Solas perfect.

Hey Dock, I understand the theory, less blades, less drag. But, I tried a Tempest Plus on the little boat, killer bow lift, but couldn't come close to the Trophy Plus I had been running. Both were 26P.

Just ran slip numbers both are ugly 17%. You'd think the Titan4 would do better.

think i would hold up till i found a dealer or prop shop that would work with you trying to find the best prop for your boat. if you can't locate one locally i think you might be able to find one that could do it by mail. a three to five hundred a pop can break a guy pretty quick.....unless you are brian aka bryden.

I love my Enertia which is what Doc has also. The Prop Gods in Florida will work with you. I've never used them but others have said they will swap them out ( at $25.00 a pop) till you are satisfied. I found the link:http://www.propgods.com/Content2/Default.aspx

I am going to go stainless in the spring to see what I can do. If I try to trim the motor at all, I get caviation real bad and come almost to a stop.

Dock, where we live is a boat dealer,much less prop shop waste land. I wish there were someone in the MD,VA,DC area someone
could recomend, for something other than " this is what we have run, and people seem to llike it" mentality. Or go look in their
book, that doesn't take into account the new performance pontoons, or how I want mine to run.

CWAG, thanks for the link, possible problem is, if they know how to fix it, it's $ labor and $ shipping some more.

I'll probaly call DAH and see what my options are, if any.

might be you need to adjust the height of the engine some, I you can't trim at all.

In Norfolk VA is Murphy's propeller and in Portsmouth VA is Bay propeller. I've bought from Murphy's and they are good to work with. They are both about 3 hours from DC metro area. It's a target rich environment for prop salesmen.

This is a Tri-toon ? I have a 522 CR with a 115 and run 24-25 with a twin toon.

I'm running 24 MPH (at 5,000 feet elevation) with a cheapie solas 13.75 X 13 3-blade prop, at 6,200 on my Merc 115 4-S. That's on an almost 4,000 pound 24' tritoon without lifting strakes.

But that's a LOT of slippage.
