I need to redo my trailer bunks (drive on style trailer) and I'm debating whether this puckboard material would work. The mfg. told me the roll was 1/8 inch thick and the board was 1/4 inch. The 1/8 roll would be cheapest and a 50 ft roll could do all the bunks but I'm not sure it would bend at the ends of the bunks. Thinking I would only screw it at the ends as the 1/8 wouldn't allow recessing the screws. Any thoughts?

If its going to be permanent, could you just glue it onto the wood bunks, or are you planning on putting these on top of the bunk carpeting? I've seen alot of wooden bunks being replaced with plastic 2X6's, they come in a varity colors and are pretty durable, no need for carpeting plus will let the boat slide on (or off, so tie it down!) easily.

What about Trex material in 2x6s ? Seems smooth enough by itself.... You could contact cement the other material to it. You'd probably never have to replace them in this life.

Never thought about glue down. Wonder what glue would be best??

The lattice is wired every 2 ft. If you look closely you can see in the pix. Used #12 single strand copper . The glides work fantastic .

There's been quiet a number of post here on bunks, and while I can appreciate trying to find a low dollar alternatives, these bunk caps from Eastern Marine go over plain un-carpeted wooden bunks, works fantastic and will last the life of any toon. Well worth the money

yep, I still like what chillin is using... think when the time comes that I have to do something with my trailer bunks, that's the way I'm gonna go.... looks good chillin.. since you've had them awhile, are they holding up good... curious as to how much of a difference do they make loading and unloading vs. carpet.... also do they put any "marks" on your toons...

No marks and it made a noticeable difference launching and loading. My wife makes it look so easy even in windy conditions it's hard to tell sometimes. I've always been thankful she's never been able to back up a trailer and that gig is her's. In 8 years I've never even tried to load and I really don't want the job. I still grin a little bit when I drive through the parking lots and see all the torn and rotten carpets on most of the trailers, makes me feel better about spending the money

Just make sure that copper isn't in contact with your logs. If so, you are going to have holes in a few years...

Maybe tie the lattice on with some jumbo cable ties.

the lattice is 6 inches wide and overlaps the 2x4. when you wire it you pull the wire snug and the lattice bends away and down slightly.. when loaded the pontoons are over 2 inches from the wire due to the curve of the pontoon and the bend of the lattice . the wire is also plastic coated. I only put the lattice on the front 1/2 of the bunks because the rear is under water when launching and boat floats off that part. when pulled out the boat rests on the rear carpeting and provided grab for safe trailering. the front with the lattice over the carpeting underneath still provides some cushioning from the carpet. cant impress how slick/slippery the plastic lattice is and how well this setup works and also how cheap and easy to install.

I think I'll go with the lattice and tie it on with cable ties. Should have enough to cover all eight of my 6'x6"x2" bunks from one 4'x8' lattice panel ($19.97). I only use the trailer twice a year, once to launch and then to take out at the end of the year. Trailer sits unused for most of the year and not worth the expense of fancy bunk covers or replacing with Trex. If it doesn't last I'm only out $19.97.
