Old school VRO question

On the Johnsons/Evinrudes of the late 80s...how interchangable and complicated are the VRO systems? For instance, I was checking out a 89, 300HP Evinrude that some one removed the oil injection from. Can they simply be "bolted" back on? And would, say a unit from a Johnson 150 of the same era work or are these old systems motor-specific?

A lot of owners removed the oil injectors because they were prone to failure which causes your engine to break. Just use the old oil and gas mixture and you will have less problems.

I prefer oil injection. I'm well aware why people removed them, but for me it's a must. Seems every one who doesn't like it HATES it and can tell you how many motors blow up fom failed VRO systems, and evey one who likes it LOVES it, best thing ever

. All I can say I have never personally had it fail, nor have I ever known any one who had. That's good enough for me.

If there was a like button for the above post I'd hit it twice!

The oil injection systems often get blamed for other failures. Back when I had 2 strokes I wasn't "skeered" of 'em. Mixing oil is a pain in the ass, IMO, not to mention more oil is used when pre mixing.

Sorry Ty, but I'm with the margaritaguy on this one. I love oil injection too...WHEN loveTHEY WORK. Unfortunately many of the old school systems were a bit iffy. Seems like a lot of risk for such a small convenience.
Blew up a Mariner 75 in just that way. It don't take long either

So sign me....been there, done that, wiped it up with the t shirt

OK, well I'm not willing to claim that I know you so that still leaves me with no first hand failure experiences
