AFTER LOTS OF READING I NEED SOME HELP

#1 Post by vlxerdon » Sat Nov 17, 2012 5:22 pm

After much reading,my wife and I went for a toon. It's a used one to start with,in case we really don't like it ( I doubt that ) Anyhoo,we picked up a well cared for 95 Starcraft Stardeck200 with a small Merc 40 hp rebuilt with 40 hours on it. Boat came with a Caulkins trailer that pulled the 60 miles to our place very well. No strangers to trailer boating as we have been doing it for bout 26 years, just never with a toon. Have a very nice storage canvas with the boat, however we will be slipping the toon next summer and I am looking to get a playpen cover. Found plenty of em,but......ya knew that was coming, right. I am not sure what way to measure cause my toon has a small front deck. Do I measure just the playpen itself or just go for the 20 foot cover. Oh yea, these are semi custom,in other words off the shelf so they come in 20/21 feet 19/20 feet ect. Any help is appreciated.

In my experience semi-custom to boat covers is more of less comparable to purchasing socks. Yea you can drag one over the boat but you'll be real disappointed on how it actually fits.

I'm sure, however it's a used boat and I can work with a so so fit for now. Long story short. Was all set to pick up another toon in July when I was hit head on three days before we were going to buy it. Just now starting to get around and went with a smaller less expensive one. It is in really fantastic shape and want to try to keep the furniture good as long as possible. Thanks for the reply.

I agree. I'd leave mine uncovered before wasting the $ on a universal. Most of them even state "not to be used for on the water storage". Not sure your local but google Tumacs Covers. Their main HQ is in PA if IIRC. I paid just over $600 for a custom fitted mooring cover with poles made from Surelast fabric about 2 years ago...

Thanks! It's kind of a joke. I've always got a boat I can use. I have 3 pier spots I let friends use. And I've had a few come and go, I guess my last few toons have been like women: I just haven't found the "keeper" yet :lol3

I had a summer job in a boat yard when I was 17 years old. Saved up and bought my first boat that summer. I'm 66,soon to be 67 years old, been boating ever since and still looking for that " keeper " boat.
