Positioning fenders?

The next newbie question... thanks for your insights!

Where on the pontoon do you attach your fenders? On my sailboat, I hang them from cleats on the hull. On pontoon fender vendor websites, I see they're hanging from the rail. I'm sure it would be easier to hang the fenders from the rail but wouldn't this stress the railing?

I have been tying fenders to the rail for 5 years with no problem.
Last summer I bought Ezfenders from Bryan on this forum and will shamelessly endorse them.
I have 3 fenders on each side and usually tie one to the front gate when docked.

Great, thanks! Without the boat here yet, it's hard to visualize answers that might be obvious otherwise.

I saw the ezfenders discussion earlier this week and had made a note to get fenders from him in Feb, assuming he still had some of those special fenders by then.

another ez fender endorsement here.... like most of us, i used to just tie my fenders on as well until one day last summer we pulled up at a lake side restaurant. Turned out the dock we pulled up to was a tri level dock so we were busy undoing the ropes and re positioning the fenders and retieing the ropes.. Not hard but a pain in the butt... with ezfenders just loosen the thumb screw, reposition the fender and tighten the thumb screw back down...couldn't be easier. Like them so much I bought a second set for my son's boat. The gentleman that sells them is a member of this forum, his name is Bryan......send him a pm for more information or google ezfender to get a look at his web site. ( yeah brian, I know I still havent sent you those pics... it's on my to do list :-)

I haven't tried the EZFender, but seems as though the folks on here who have them really like them.
I use a Perko. See this link: http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/st ... ODIEHdWPuw
I had these on the stern of my runabout and the dealer where I bought the pontoon installs them as part of the pontoon package. You just tie your line to the portion with the ring and adjust the line one time. When you leave the dock, you slide the ring up into the wide portion of the device and lift your fender. I wouldn't recommend them if you planned on leaving your fenders dangle all the time as I see some tooners here at LOTO.
I haven't run into a situation where there's more than one level to a dock so I can't comment on that.

I kinda prefer the EzFenders, too...
Thanks for the good words, guys! I haven't had a set returned in almost 5 years of selling them. Close to 2000 pairs!
And yes, Roland.... Where are those pics?
I still have plenty of the blems, here at the house.
Thanks Edie! You'll love them!
Happy New Years to everyone!
Bryan

I have minions that stand on my boat whenever I'm docked, or tied up to another boat. They hold the fender lines, and automatically adjust the height accordingly. When I tie up for the night, they stand there all night, holding the lines. They're the best little minions I could ever ask for. When the fenders are not out, they row the boat. Who needs an outboard motor, when you have minions? They also make me a sammich, or mix me a cocktail, whenever I feel the need.
